Brush ’n Go Boat Hull Cleaning – About the Service
Brush ’n Go Boat Hull Cleaning – About the Service
Brush ’n Go is a method recommended by the Finnish Safety and Chemicals Agency (Tukes) and the Keep the Archipelago Tidy Association (Pidä Saaristo Siistinä ry). This toxin-free brush wash is suitable for keel-less boats under 10 meters in length, covering approximately 90% of boats in Finland.
Ready to switch to toxin-free boating? We’re happy to answer all your questions and are here when you’re ready.
Is Brush ’n Go Boat Hull Cleaning Suitable for My Boat?
The brush wash is suitable for monohull boats under 10 meters long, with a maximum width of 3 meters and weight of up to 3500 kg. Boats with keels or shaft drives are generally excluded from the service.
Boats longer than 9 meters or weighing over 3000 kg will be assessed case by case, as the feasibility depends on the waterline length and conditions at the wash location. In these cases, please contact customer service at +358 20 7670 350.
What Substances Are Used in the Wash?
Brush ’n Go boat hull cleaning is performed without any detergents or solvents. The mechanical brush system removes fouling organisms and other impurities from the hull effectively—using only water.
Does Boat Hull Cleaning with Brushes Damage the Boat Hull?
Brush ’n Go system does not damage the boat hull or erode its coating more than regular wear and tear.
As a customer, you are responsible for any machinery, instruments, or devices on the hull or transom. These must be reported before the wash begins.
The wash is not suitable for boats painted during the current season or those treated with soft paints. A hard coating combined with brush washing is the winning combo!
When Should I Wash the Boat Hull?
At sea, the biggest nuisance for boaters is barnacle growth. It typically attaches to the hull around late July to early August during a two-week period when sea temperatures reach 18°C. It’s easiest to clean while still fresh.
Slime and algae begin to grow on the hull as soon as the boating season starts. Toxic antifouling paints don’t work well against them, yet algae affect glide and fuel consumption just the same.
You should clean the hull at the latest when your top speed drops significantly or the boat’s handling changes. You can check for growth by simply running your hand over the hull.
Washing frequency depends on local conditions, how the boat is used, and the condition of the coating. In the Baltic Sea, 2–4 cleanings per season are typical. Mechanical cleaning should be done during the boating season.
We recommend washes, for example, before the holiday season, after it, and at the end of the season.
